On Dec. 15th, afterschool, there was the 5th talk in Lecture Series ‘The World Haven’t Discovered You Yet’ at HELLO Village. This time we had a speaker, Sora Matsuo, who is a Hiyoshi graduate and gave a talk about ‘A Way of Life Different from Others’. In the first year in Hiyoshi, Sora joined the Global Leader Project and visited Cebu Island. She met street children in a slum who collected plastics and made some little money. When she asked them whether they were happy or not, they unexpectedly told her with smiles that they were so. This made her reconsider the question ‘what is happiness, and what is poverty?’. After coming back to Japan, she launched ‘Sustainable Hiyoshi Project’ and organized several events such as ‘Origiri Action’ and ‘Thrift Shop’. After graduation, she cloudfunded the money for visiting and investigating the issue of poverty in Africa (Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania). She is now working on a human resources system to solve this problem. We were all glad to hear ‘her way of life that is neither going to college nor starting to work’.
In the Q&A section, students asked various questions such as ‘What made you bring to Africa?’ and ‘Have your way of thinking changed after the trip to Africa?’. We wrapped up the lecture by taking a group photo.
